Product Details
DC Comics, for the first time ever, has reprinted the very first comic book published by DC Comics as National Allied Publications, Inc. Originally published January 11, 1935, NEW FUN COMICS #1 made history as the first comic book to be continually published for over 85 years made up of new stories instead of reprints of newspaper comic strips. Included in the comics for “kids from 9-90” are “Sandra of the Secret Service,” the first DC heroine-pre Wonder Woman; “Barry O’Neal,” DC’s first action hero; “Don Drake on the Planet Saro” and “2023 Super Police” science fiction comics. The stories are presented in the style of Sunday newspaper comic strips of the 1930s, including some written by Major Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson, the founder of the company that would become DC Comics. This tabloid-sized, black and white comic book is reprinted as a commemorative hardcover and includes special features including an Introduction by Jerry Bails, “The Father of Comic book fandom” intended for an earlier publication; a new Introduction by Roy Thomas, legendary comic book writer and editor; a historical essay of “the Major” and bios of all the contributors by Nicky Wheeler-Nicholson, the Major’s granddaughter; and an essay by Benjamin LeClear, editor and DC archivist.
